You left when the light had not yet come, when night was not yet done, and my dreams were unfinished. I'd held you there so carefully, like the fragile thing you are to me. It was enough to simply be this close to you. Each breath I drew was of you. Each movement became as the vessel to the sea. You moved with me, completely unaware of this in your sleep. Moonlight on the ocean calm never looked as brilliant as lamplight on you in my arms. I vowed in that moment to protect you for all, to keep you from harm. But you've gone and the light has not yet come.
