Hello everyone! It's tuesday November 11th and we are going to start our first book club meeting here in this thread. This thread is where the disscussions will be held for our first book, Thugs and the women who love them by Wahida Clark. This is a great book and I doubt that anyone will be unsatisfied however once we finish I have a feeling on what the next book we will want to read!  Alright so lets get started. I hope that everyone had a chance to get their book. Please check in here and say yes I got it so I know who's apart. We are going to break this book up into three parts and it's a short book so I'll give everyone three weeks to complete it. There are three stories, the first is on Jazmine the second is on Kyra and the third is on Roz. For the first week we are going to read Jaz's section. I know it is going to be hard but try to wait for the rest of the group before we go to the next section next week. All this week post your thoughts and comments of what went on in this section. Tommrow I'm going to post up some questions to stimulate the group. Alright everyone, start reading and have fun! |

I think the book is truly a good read. I am loving it so far.
What is your first impression of Jazmine?
I think that she is a woman that is trying to make it out here in the world by any means necessary. In my opinion, I think she should try to do it the right way instead of the wrong way, because she definitely has a good head on her shoulders.

Hell yeah!!! She is sitting back allowing her daughter to be abused all for the sake of financial security. Child please!!! I would work an extra job or something to make sure that my children are taken care of by me and not PIMP money. While I understand that she is tired and is thankful for the extra help... I can't understand why it has to be at the expense of her child's welfare.
If you were Jazmine would you handle the fight situation the same way?
Hell No!!!!! His azzz would have been kicked straight to the curb at the first sign of violence... whether it was geared toward me or not. If he does it to someone else... he will eventually try to do it to you.

My first impression of this book was, I'm going to be finished in a day. So I know it's going to be hard for everyone. Maybe we can make it two weeks so let me know when your done with Jazmines portion of the book.

At first I thought Jazmine was just one of those straight up career girlfriends whom only date ballers and that pays their rent. But as the story went on I saw that there was more to her story. This is a well written novel.

Snake, my first impression was beat his ass girl! I can't stand a man that put's his hand on a woman and he is just straight evil. There is not one man that is fine enough to go through that.

If I was Jazmines mother I would not be in that house. If she wants to live with him then fine life with him but I will be on welfare before I stay there because by staying in a house that he pays for she doesn't truly have a say so because he is make it possible for her to keep a roof over her head. I don't care much for reasoning because they make shelters that are not that bad if people can't take care of themselves for a moment you know what I mean? I know that she can't say much to her daughter because at that age they are pretty much going to do what they want to do but in no indirect way would I support it and I would shut his ego down every time he came around me.

First off that would be the first and last fight, wouldn't have been no sex session after, straight up I was like what! Oh she is stuck on stupid. I wasn't feeling that at all. because it wasn't like it was the first time and because she had sex with him afterward it just makes him feel like he was right.

Girl... you know I finished the first part already. I could have finished it in one night... but I am trying to do right and wait on the rest of the crew.
Anyway...
The thing is... it is Jazmine's mom's house... so if anyone should leave... it should be Jazmines azz... especially if she is going to bring that type of riff-raff up in my spot. Also, why would she want to have that type of drama going on in front of her younger child? What tyoe of an example is she setting for those kids (Jazmine and sibling)? I will tell you what type... she is letting them know that it is alright for your man to be a P-I-M-P and beat up on women as long as your bills are getting paid, your hair and nails are gettin done on the regular, you wearing all the latest styles and you got food in the house to eat anytime the spirit moves you.
Momma is dead wrong and needs to check herself... for real. While I understand that she doens't want to "Struggle", I don't understand her tactics. Shyt... don't she make good money doing that insurance thang??

This book is the realness! The setting and the atmosphere was something that was indescribable. It was raw and I apprecited that abou that author...sometimes a little too raw for me to handle because it presses deep into all the fears and insecurities that all females either face or fear to face.

I've been sayin Jaz all this time and the first charecter is Angel, my bad, I'm mixing charecters but all that info is geared towards angel.

exactly and I'm glad he got what he deserves with his ole lady pimp too. Even though angel gave him a but whoopin' the disercration that he did to Big Nell was the worst depiction of a pimp I have yet to see. But a woman's wrath aint nothing to mess with!
