Chocolate brown
Sun kissed skin
Mother used to admire
The delicate softness as a child
Wrapped me up and cradled me in her arms
Singing homemade lullaby’s admiring her baby
Such a beautiful gem
Everyone will desire she used to say
Everyone will enjoy her presence as
She will touch the world with her words
And her chocolate skin
Love that chocolate skin
The kind that is blessed by the lord’s talk
His touch, said let it be,
And he gave me the look I so gratefully
Adorn, he says be!
Let it be!
Like our people so strong, varying in shade
From the deep dark chocolate to the
Lightest of white chocolate
And me, somewhere in between
Similar to Hershey milk chocolate
We've got to get in us the fact that love is here
In this melting pot that makes our complexions blend
The art of being emotional yet holding nothing in
We've got to understand that love is
Always an ingredient that cannot be shed
Because it is, as deep as my chocolate tone
Mama used to say
Love me in all my chocolate ness
Take in my words
Believe my walk
Smell my fragrance
For it is all love.
Sip on the waters that we share
Somewhere close to here
In a stream that we all believe can't be anything but love
Sip on the knowledge that we share there
We gather and talk about yesterday as though
Its doing wasn't apart of today’s being
Yes sip on the knowledge and let it
Stir in your soul,
Allow it to dig deep and reach way back into ancestor’s days for
That longing to be impressed by how far we have come
Yes we have come a mighty long way
And still got more strides to make
Yet stand still and sip on the joys of the world
Take off that robe of pain
Peel back the years of sorrow
Crush the silent treatment of hurt
And sip on this life right here
Let it warm your soul all the way to the toes
You deserve that much my dear
You deserve that much....
Dipping my pinky finger all in your mix
Because you are me
Regardless if we believe it
Don't even have to speak but yes
You are me, and I must own up to you
As you must do to me
No longer can we allow the things that are done
In the confidence of our home break down our community
We must dip and spend time on each other
Lean on each other
We must do at least this
Because in time
I will be able to let go of all my fears in you
And you will do the same to me
This isn't about selfishness here
It's about embracing the unknown and
Getting to know all about you
Do me this last favor
Before you retire to rest at the close of the night
And make good reprieve on all you have done for the day
Think of me, pray for me, and I will do the same
Just say a few words
They may be poetic
Or as unpoetic as you need
But do me this last favor
And I will do the same
Hold me in good faith
And I will do the same
Call it our favor...
