His upcoming CD is called “Confessions,” and it looks like the singer is applying the album’s concept to his life. The 25-year-old entertainer recently shocked his mother by confessing in his recent Upscale magazine cover story that he has used marijuana.
“I’ve smoked weed before, but I don’t advise anyone to do it,” admitted Usher to Associate Editor Ethel M. Johnson. “I’ve never told anybody that. Is it gonna come back and haunt me?” The singer’s admission has seemingly shocked his mom/manager Jonnetta Patton. Jonnetta offered, “I don’t think he’s a mama’s boy. But people have said he was, and I think that bothers him. That’s why he’s so rebellious with me sometimes.”
Usher also disclosed, “I love Cuban cigars,” but acknowledged that he hates cigarettes. Hoping to comfort his mom’s uneasiness with his admission to marijuana use, Usher added, “Mom, I love you, and when you read this I hope you’re not mad.”
His marijuana issue may not be the only thing making Usher’s mother cringe. Apparently, the singer has saved a few confessions for his album as well, according to Beck/Smith’s Hollywood Exclusive. "[On the album] I talk about the time I was dating one girl off and on. At a time when we weren't together, I got a girl on the side pregnant. This didn't happen in my most recent relationship [with Chilli],” admitted Usher, who makes it clear he has no children. "Some of my fans may be offended by it, but these are my personal issues and problems, and I'm dealing with them in my own way. I use my music as a diary.”
