The Jennifer Lopez "Flashdance" drama continues. The actress-singer got into a bit of trouble over her video for "I’m Glad."
Lopez, who is a big fan of the 1983 dancer flick starring Jennifer Beals, says the clip is an homage to the film.
Now, the real-life inspiration for the film, Maureen Marder, is suing J.Lo over the video. Marder received $2,300 for her contribution to the film and was reportedly bitter over the deal and so would not grant sequel rights or permit any further use of her identity or story.
"Flashdance owes both its story and its soul to Maureen Marder," said her lawyer. "But she received almost nothing for her contribution, accepting a small sum of cash from the producers who told her the movie was only generally about dancing and would not feature the details of her life."
Marder attempted to settle the matter out of court, but so far apparently Lopez and Sony paid no attention. Paramount, the film company that produced and distributed the film denies that Marder has any right. Although Paramount sent a notice to Lopez’s label claiming the clip was more of a rip-off than a tribute. Lopez and Sony hushed the matter with an undisclosed deal.
