Rapper MC Hammer officiated at the wedding of Motley Crue member Vince Neil yesterday (January 9th). According to reports, Neil, 43, struck up a friendship with the multi-platinum rapper while they filmed the reality television show “The Surreal Life” in 2002. Neil married his girlfriend Lia Gerardini in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Producer/singer/songwriter Raphael Saadiq is in the process of compiling the best unused songs from production sessions with various artists for release this year. The untitled album will feature Mos Def, Nappy Roots, Kelis, Babyface, Angie Stone, Erykah Badu, TLC, Ginuwine and others. In related news, Saadiq recently completed work with Mary J. Blige, producing and writing two songs for her new album. Saadiq is also preparing to shoot a video for “I Want You Back" (featuring Teedra Moses), the new single from his critically acclaimed Raphael Saadiq as Ray Ray.
Seal recently criticized rappers for damaging the African-American community in the United States. In a recent interview with Sister 2 Sister magazine, Seal, who was recently wed to supermodel Heidi Klum, said that the rappers were hurting their respective communities in a way that others would not. "Take for example the Jewish culture. They've been persecuted just like the black people, right? But you never see them eating their own. They don't. But we will,” Seal said. "I really feel that there is a responsibility and what goes around comes around."
A DVD on the life story of author Donald Goines recently hit stores, featuring a who’s-who in Hip-Hop. “Donnie’s Story” is the history of Goines, a former heroin addict, pimp and gangster, who authored “Dopefiend,” “Addict,” and “Blackgirl Lost,” which was also a song by Nas. “Donnie” as his sisters and close friends called him, share insight on his life in never before seen interviews. Filmed on location across the nation, the DVD features interviews with DMX, E –40, Ice Cube, Capone, Fab 5 Freddy, Benzino, Mike Conception, Fredro Starr, Bun B, Easy Mo Bee, Mike Epps, Sticky Fingers, Bo Tie, Miller London, BMF, Cheddaboyz & many others and was produced & directed by Kelvin “Kal” Williams.
