How can he say that he doesn't believe that Tookie is truly sorry. Does redemption even exist? I guess not, the man did apologize for what he had done! I don't understand.

Well you're correct in both statements ~
Tookie did in fact maintain his innocence of * THIS * crime , he did apologise for other crimes /murders .
I think it's odd ....why would a man who KNOWS HE IS NEVER GETTING SET FREE only take responsibility
for certain crimes but not all.?
...it would not change his sentence , it would in fact have HELPED his chances of a pardon to life in prison.
This is what I do for work , he was one of our clients ....I am so fuqn sick of this ...; (

That's what I was trying to figure out. If he only apologized for certain crimes, he must not have done them, he knew it could help him beat the death penalty if he apologized for all.

I think the important thing about the Tookie Williams case was that he was not only a changed man but he was a man trying to bring change. Now I agree with you all and understand your stand point because he did take many lives and commit haneous crimes and even worse than that he started the crips which for years to come people will die because of it's existance. But he was working hard on truces between the bloods and crips and trying to make the crips a non violent organization because they began as a brother hood or family and not a gang, it was later that the gang peice came into the picture. Now that he is no longer living he cant do anything at all to help the situation. His movement of redemption is buried with him.

As far as the political aspect Arnold wasn't ever going to pardon him because there would have been way too many (excuse me for this but it's real talk) white people that would have been mad at him for it. Sure he would have been seen as a saint by the african american community however. Never mind his personal connection with Tookie, when it comes down to it none of that mattered and it wasn't ever going to be a factor.

Baby girl you know I am with you on all these points .
As I said this is my work , my life . I also should say this ;
I am not a hypocrite ~ I will stand by the death penalty if it has been proven ** beyond reasonable doubt ** if my babies , my family
was taken from me by the act of murder ...
you can bet I'd want that person to fuqn pay for it !
But I would want the RIGHT person to pay. I would not be able to live with even a shadow of doubt if the evidence did not PROVE the case.
We have an amazing legal system in this country...and it is not the system that is flawed , it's the people working the system/ interpreting the laws with either no regard for the science of DNA or they have a personal read ; political agenda not to see justice done.
It is a fact , incontrovertible fact, that it cost more { by 6x } to put on a death penalty case and in appeals. It cost more to house a death penalty inmate by 4x as much . Why ,oh why, can we not spend the money on the DNA test that would either prove guilt or innocence ? They call DNA
"the finger of G*d pointing at you "...that's powerful stuff .
If one person dies for crimes they did not commit that is too many.
If one court refuses to grant time and testing then we are all guilty ,
We have all failed the human being and the system.
If they want to save money , send all the inmates who plead guilty down.
Why make a deal with a murderer ?
Isn't that the same as making deals w/ terrorist ?
As for Tookie , my heart is still cold ....
I never met him , but I know many who worked for and with him.
He was a remarkable man . He was a hard man .
He was not willing to play the " step and fetch " role white republican christian america wants in it's *second class citizens* .
He took his life in his own hands { they don't like that } he made amends
best he could ...role model ? Maybe ...
certainly he was making a difference in lives , in black/Latino poor lives and you see that just isn't enough for " The Man "
If they wanted responsibility , they got it ~ he educated .
and there again white America is fearful. He did not talk in the same language , agenda ~ he was telling people why NOT to follow his path
in real , hardcore terms. Honest terms.
Not the fantasy white politicians are trying to feed us .
I hate the thought that he will be a martyr . He was a violent , toxic man
who for too many reasons poisoned his own people . That should not be held up as Sainthood . He himself said that many times . But this man was making a difference where White America couldn't care less. Therefore he and his message is / was expendable.
The Governator ? The son of a Nazi { absolute truth people } is just as evil as the crimes Tookie did commit and the ones he was accused of committing.
He is in my opinion more dangerous ~ In Arnold's world , the Republican world it is not " And justice for all " it is " us against them ".
That is a plague that is spreading again in the Nation.
No accountability . Not for him or his political rhetoric .
Polls showed that most people across the nation supported death for Tookie.
I found it interesting that the white votes were not from everyday folks
they were cast by Christian pro-lifers ....WTF ?
The most votes against his being executed were cast also by white folks.
They identified as " Liberal , democrat/independents "...it isn't all of white America by any means . I tell you what I think ;
If you are rich ,well educated and conservative , black/white you will prevail.
If you are among the dominate poor ~ you are screwed .

When are we going to stop this madness ?
