its one of the best albums of the elements

and i am talking about EARTH WIND AND FIRE


i remember wenn the album came out my cuz bought that album woow

i do have a lot of cds of george and this cdrelease is the old george duke music i use to know before he makes this 80s those comercial kinda music
what ya now hearing on this album is really refreshing it really sounds like george duke is reborn
and woow does he sound good

this album is a must have
a great come back for the great george duke
the great producer behind the talented rachel ferrel and other great singers

Raphael Saadiq "All Hits At The House of Blues

Soul brother number 2, Raphael Saadiq, recently released All Hits At The House of Blues, under his independent label Pookie Entertainment. This album was recorded July 3, 2003 at the Los Angeles House of Blues. This album could have not come at a better time for Raphael, as he killed two singing birds with one stone. The extraordinary live album was a wonderful way for Raphael to re-launch his Pookie label, as well as he gave his longtime fans what they have been yearning for: The Tony! Toni! Tone! Reunification, in addition to some pleasant surprises.


Oakland, California’s own Raphael Saadiq, has blessed the urban airwaves since the early 1990’s with the R/B super group, Tony Toni Tone, and now that it is 2003, Raphael has transformed into a true musical renaissance man. Instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter, Saadiq has done it all. Another important factor to remember about Saadiq, is the fact that he gives. A true artist has the confidence to share his blessings and talents with others, and some of Raphael’s best work can be found when he collaborates with other top-recording artists. Having said that, All Hits is a multidimensional CD, offering you a live musical timeline of Raphael’s influence to the industry. With the nostalgia of the older hits, the "gospeldelic" feel of his recent hits, and a cornucopia of special guests, All Hits might need a subtitle of ‘More Instant Vintage’.


Saadiq’s All Hits collection is a live double CD that was performed by his 10-piece band. The first CD opens up with a few of Raphael’s classic cuts from his critically acclaimed Instant Vintage solo effort. Body Parts, Charlie Ray and Faithful, are some of the selections that he used to get the crowd warm.


The next section in disc one, Raphael Saadiq decided to go into soundtrack mode. He gives you a triple dose of his finest soundtrack cuts, surprising from all John Singleton movies—Ask of You (Boyz In the Hood), Just Me And You (Higher Learning) and Just A Man featuring Devon The Dude (Baby Boy). Now it’s intermission, but the crowd doesn’t get any rest as Raphael’s protégé, Joi keeps the energy flowing at a very high level with her renditions of Copy Cat and Missing You.


The zenith of the entire set happens within the last section of the first disc. The reunion of Tony Toni Tone brings the crowd to a crazy uproar. The first song in the reunion, Still A Man, had a resounding message in the lyrics with Raphael soulful cry of "Look, we’re still standing!" Then the group had a good time bringing the magic back to the stage with their refreshed versions of such classics such as Lay Your Head On My Pillow, Whatever You Want, and Anniversary.


If you ever needed to understand the meaning behind the term ‘gospeldelic’, please use disc 2 as your reference. Raphael uses the first 6 tracks as a vehicle to really take his listeners back to church, as what he likes to call gospeldelic soul. Still Ray, complete with a tuba player, has more call and response than a Wednesday night bible study. On Different Times, Saadiq’s receives vocal assists from the beautiful women, Ledisi and Goapele. The standout track for the second CD had to be 9-minute rendition of Uptown, which features New Birth’s Leslie Wilson. Gospel soul at his finest, Leslie Wilson’s crooning will have your ears sweating.


How can Raphael Saadiq close this live CD with a bang? How about Michael "D’Angelo" Archer and the classic jam Be Here? The crowd is stunned and amazed to see the reclusive D’Angelo pour his soul out on stage. The 9-minute closer gives Raphael the chance to rock on the electrical guitar, and gives D’Angelo a platform to testify on the microphone, For one night, LA’s House of Blues had been changed Raphael Saadiq’s House of Soul.

"The real thing is back in town," sang Rickie Lee Jones on Tuesday (November 25th, 2003) during an epic rendition of her 1979 tune "Coolsville" at the Wilshire Theater. The veteran singer-songwriter wasn't referring to herself, but that line reflected the newfound purpose in "The Evening of My Best Day," her first collection of new songs in six years. Some people say bad times make for better art, and such new selections as "Ugly Man" were clearly inspired by Jones' anger over George W. Bush being president, and the wars on terrorism and Iraq. But not even her most obvious protest song, the stark spiritual "Tell Somebody (Repeal the Patriot Act Now)," sounded strident; instead, it was almost a joyful call to arms. Within the brisk two-hour show, Jones let some songs sprawl, to particularly impressive effect with the vocal improv that ended "Coolsville."The set spanned her career, with standouts including a sophisticated "Young Blood," an exuberant "Flying Cowboys" and a fun duet on David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" with impromptu guest vocalist Syd Straw. Along with limning romance intricately and without cliché, Jones expressed concern over the world's troubles without bitterness. Her comment about being on the left generated much applause, but the rapture she radiated throughout was what made you want to do more than just sit in the dark, consoling yourself with her music's singular beauty.

Rickie Lee Jones' latest release indeed a "Best Day"

Stop the presses, hold the phones and can the clichés. Seemingly out of the blue, Rickie Lee Jones has just released her best album in more than 20 years.

With The Evening of My Best Day, it's as if she picked up where she left off way back when, thanks to superb songwriting, intricate arrangements, stellar musicianship and a voice that's as distinctive as it is enticing. That voice can still fly, as Jones proves frequently, especially on the soaring soft ocean ballad Sailor Song. Numerous other tracks offer her even more room to shine, including the politically charged Ugly Man with its Steely Dan-style horn arrangement, the cool summer vibe of A Second Chance, the gospel-tinged protest song Tell Somebody and the surging rhythms and layers of vocals that brilliantly color one of the album's most hypnotic cuts, It Takes You There. There are few things as wonderful as getting a great surprise from a long-lost friend you could never quite forget. That's exactly what the remarkably resilient Jones has delivered with The Evening of My Best Day.
