I have always wondered about this and so I have recently decided to do me a lil research. what caused the break up of the group? Was it Wyclef ego or his and Lauryns affair? Tell me what you think and i've got some interesting articles to post. the first on is from www.sohh.com
In part two of SOHH's two-part Pras expose', the former Fugee speaks on the group's future, the Wyclef and Lauryn Hill affair, the deteriorating state of Hip-Hop and his company, Guerrilla Entertainment.
Heads have been fiending for a new Fugee record for the past seven years. As all members continued to drop solo efforts, the hope of seeing the trio reunite became dimmer. Though Clef extended his hand on 2000's "Where The Fugees At," the legendary group hasn't recorded collectively since 1996's The Score. "I mean anything can happen. Dude came back to repent, wash his sins, you know be like I was wrong. But I don't see dude doing that. His ego is too big," Pras told SOHH.com. The Fugees' contract stipulates that they still owe albums to Columbia Records, but Pras is rather pessimistic about a new album from the trio. "I doubt that they gon get it."
Though there are various theories on what went wrong in Fugee land, many pinpointed the Wyclef and Lauryn affair as the catalyst for the break up. And while many still speculate on the verity of Clef's claims, Pras put any doubts to rest. "I mean everybody knows that, no speculation," Pras said regarding Lauryn and Clef's relationship.
Meanwhile Pras confirms that the Refugee camp's first internal diss doesn't come from Clef -- but is aimed at him. "Her [Lauryn's] whole album was geared towards that dude. Even the title of the album Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," Pras shared. "She felt like being in this situation with this dude everything she thought she was or thought she knew about herself was really misinformed. It's a deep title man. It's a deep concept, deep album."
Beef aside, Pras' plate is quite full. Last year, he made a noteworthy appearance on Fox's Fast Lane and he currently has three movie deals on the table. Also, he is set to release a mixtape album with Cut Master C and Big Mike next month while his follow up LP Cold Fire is near completion. Furthermore, Pras' newly founded company, Guerrilla Entertainment, is currently negotiating a distribution deal. "I'm doing the sh!t my way, f#@$ the refugee sh!t. f#@$ all that other bullsh!t. This is Guerrilla and it's very serious and we're coming as a force and as a movement, Pras said excitedly. "And it's indie in a sense that it's my sh!t. It's just going through a major channel. They just put my sh!t out there, but it's not like Pras is signed to Columbia."
Though Pras is on a mission, he's the latest veteran to voice his displeasure on the current state of Hip-Hop. "I think it's f#@$ed up because ni99as are scared of being themselves. Everybody feels like they got to be the next man," Pras explained. "The industry, for real, for real, they're more groupies than groupies on the road. That's why I can't f#@$ with ni99as in this game, they all pussies man. Cause a lot of these ni99as is frauds, they fake, they wack."
While the industry makes Pras sick, Hip-Hop's newest school really makes his stomach turn. "Young ni99as right now are on some beeyatch sh!t rhyming like they're gay and all that wack sh!t man," Pras said visibly disgusted. "The new generation, they're wack because they don't really understand hip hop, they come in there cause they're like I want to get some rides and the beeyatches. I'm like money... that's not what hip hop is about."
Pras's mixtape album in collaboration with Cut Master C and Big Mike is set for an August release while his second solo LP, Cold Fire will drop later this year.
