Peace fam, this post is for all those whom are interesting in publishing and either don't want to go through AAP (no hard feelings! ;D) or just want to feel the accomplishment of self publishing. And also for you to understand what AAP goes through to publish a project. Step 1: Order your free publishing guide at www.morrispublishing.com That is the printer that I go through and also almost all your information that I will post here is also in there. I'm just going to break it down because if you are like me you need the Duhduh version because you don't have time to really read cover to cover and then break it down. Step 2: How much do you want to spend? Know right off the back how much you plan to spend on this project. Is this going to be one of those projects that you are going to go all out on or is this going to be conservative. While I understand that on your first project you may want to go all out, Think conservative because your first project is what will generate more capital for your future projects. Ex: Reflections of a Woman, I cut cost by organizing and proximinating the amount of pages I wanted to make the book. Everything from cover to cover. I went with a free cover to cut cost as well as taking advantage of the fact that with poetry compilations you don't need to have a huge book. When you are talking publishing you are talking per page. So the more you write the more your project will cost. Try breaking your project down, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Step 3 Write like it's the first thing you have ever written. I often do two versions of my work or type my work twice because I always think of better things as I go back and revise. Because you are your worst critic treat you work like your baby. Be sensitive about it and double and triple check it. Edit your work like you are an editor. So by the time it gets to an editor there won't be much adjusting that they will have to do.
Step 4 Read the publishing guide up until the point your send your work off. It is important that you format your work the way it states in the book. For instance, if you just type regular and you haven't formated your work yet you may think that the cost of your book is going to be $3.02 a book but once you format it meaning put the margins for the header, footer add page numbers to the footer and so forth your cost may be up because you have more pages that need to be printed. Even if you are going through a publisher you want to be educated on things like this. Try to do most of the work yourself because for everything you don't do you will get charged for. Ex. morris charges $0.50 for every page they have to format the numbers in. So it is not enough to put numbers at the bottom of your page but you must also have them in the right place. All of that information is in the guide. Trust me when I say it is a life saver.
Step 5: Have someone else look over it. Someone you trust like a family member or friend. Someone that will be just as critical as yourself. Family will always tell you the truth. Take their suggestions because they are going to be real with you. Even if you don't like it take it into consideration.
Step 6: Don't be afraid to ask. I called Morris almost everyday until I got reflections back in my hand. They don't mind. And if you need me I am always here to answer your questions. I am always here to help.
