Abe Lincoln - The truth

Funny thing. In my freshman year of college, my Harvard-bred history professor flat out told us (including a good number of black students) that Abraham Lincoln could care less about Negroes. He actually was a racist and wrote the E.P. only in hopes of one day sending blacks back to Africa. He had a great vision for an all-white state and blamed blacks for the Civil War.

That place in Africa: Liberia. One of the reasons it was founded.

The E.P. was originally the "Emancipation and Deportation" proclamation.

He was killed in I believe 1865, before he could act on plans to ship freed blacks to Liberia en masse.

A couple of years ago I read Forced Into Glory: Abraham Lincoln's White Dream.

This book will open your eyes about Lincoln an show who he really was. I didn't lose respect for Lincoln because at least he was the only President to at least cared about slaves - look at the Presidents that came after him.

But it opens your eyes about what he really said about the slaves and what his real motives were.
