I'm in Cartersville, Ga. ( the sticks!) and there is a covered bridge built by a freed slave, Washington W. King. I took a picture (can't find it) but it's still standing.
About 130+ years old. They used large wooden pegs, to support the cross braces. REALLY neat constuction.
